Knee pain & stiffness

When every staircase starts to feel like a decision, it’s time for a conversation about the knees.

Let’s talk about care ↗

A PLAN FOR A PERSON

Make everyday movement feel more manageable.

Proposed care approach. Clinical suitability and service availability are confirmed before enrolment. Relief and results vary.

First, understand the story

Talk about stiffness, walking, stairs and any diagnosis or treatment already in place. Knee pain has different causes; an assessment helps decide whether home physiotherapy is appropriate.

Then, practise with guidance

If suitable, the physiotherapist can tailor strength and mobility work to your parent’s starting point, with pain specialist review. There is no one-size-fits-all exercise sheet.

Keep the conversation going

Review how walking and everyday tasks feel, alongside pain and stiffness. Adjustments belong with the professional team, not a step-count target.

A little context,
not a prescription.

For osteoarthritis, exercise and other support may help manage symptoms. That does not mean every painful knee has osteoarthritis, or that the condition can be reversed.

General background: NHS: osteoarthritis treatment and support. This is not evidence of ami programme results. Your parent’s own clinician should guide their care.
